Up Close And Personal
Marie Milie Jones made history in Pittsburgh when,
in 1998, she became the youngest female managing attorney of a major
law firm in the city's history. Those who know her well are not
surprised by the confidence she has earned from both her colleagues
and clients.
As a lawyer, Marie is a defense trial attorney who represents individuals and companies in employment litigation.
Her work includes counseling and defending employers on a
variety of employment issues and includes practicing before
administrative agencies and in federal and state courts.
She has also achieved prominence for one unusual focus -- the jailhouse. Marie represents local municipalities, counties, and government agencies who, along with their personnel, are sued by those who allege police abuse, excessive force, violation of constitutional rights, and the like. That's why she frequently speaks on such things as prison risk management before groups like the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania.
Born and raised in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Marie majored in French and minored in math at Duquesne University where she graduated cum laude in 1985. She stayed at Duquesne for her law degree in the Three-Three Early Admission Program. Her affinity for her alma mater continued when Marie served as president of the university's alumni association for six years, and she now sits on the school's board of directors
and serves as its Vice-Chair. Marie is a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh, a program devoted to encouraging leadership in the region. Marie joined Meyer Darragh in 1987 and became a partner in 1993.
Besides the community activities already noted, Marie
has served as the President of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute, and served on the board of Artists and Cities, Inc., a non-profit organization devoted to promoting urban art. She is also a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel,
the Defense Research Institute, and is active with the
Pennsylvania Bar Association, serving on its Commission on Women
in the Profession Committee and as a Board member of the PABAR-PAC.
Marie served for a number of years as a Hearing Committee member
for the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board. Marie is married to Cameron Jones, the owner of the Northland Ford
and Northland Lincoln-Mercury car dealerships in Butler County. |
