MEYER DARRAGH ATTORNEY TO CHAIR DePAUL INSTITUTE BOARD

Carl A. Eck, a senior partner and president of the Pittsburgh-based law firm of Meyer Darragh Buckler Bebenek & Eck, PLLC, has been elected president of the board of trustees of DePaul Institute, a state-approved non-profit school for children with hearing, speech, or language impairments.

Mr. Eck, a highly regarded Pennsylvania trial attorney respected for his quiet demeanor and gentle tenacity, has been a trustee of the DePaul Institute for many years, serving most recently as vice president of the board. Open to all, DePaul was founded by the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh and the Sisters of Charity in 1907.

Among its missions, DePaul teaches deaf children to speak orally, listen, and lip read the speech of others. Almost all these children are able to "mainstream" into local schools with little or no special assistance.

"Carl will provide excellent leadership to the DePaul Institute, and we have gained much from his expertise," notes Dr. Philip S. Boggio, the Institute’s superintendent.

A fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the Allegheny County Academy of Trial Attorneys, Mr. Eck represents clients in commercial litigation matters, including personal injury and product liability defense.

"Carl’s service to this important institute maintains the high example of community volunteerism we see from all our attorneys," notes Marie Milie Jones, the firm’s managing attorney. "We salute him for this special honor."

"For nearly a hundred years, the DePaul Institute has been helping families and their children overcome impairments to become active members of our community. I am delighted to help the many people associated with this great organization," says Mr. Eck.

A graduate of Notre Dame and its law school, Mr. Eck joined the law firm in 1959, becoming one of the named partners in 1963. He is admitted to practice in both Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Mr. Eck and his wife live in Mt. Lebanon and have six children, three of whom are attorneys.

Meyer Darragh is a 40-attorney Pennsylvania law firm with offices in Altoona, Greensburg, and Pittsburgh and a particular focus on litigation defense, employment law, municipal law, and motor vehicle and criminal defense.
